Bush Accuses Kerry of Waffling on Issues

Yahoo! News - Bush Accuses Kerry of Waffling on Issues: "'The other party's nomination battle is still playing out. The candidates are an interesting group with diverse opinions,' Bush said. 'They're for tax cuts and against them. They're for NAFTA and against NAFTA. They're for the Patriot Act and against the Patriot Act. They're in favor of liberating Iraq (news - web sites), and opposed to it. And that's just one senator from Massachusetts.' His supportive audience erupted in laughter and applause." "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson Ya know folks, if Clinton gave people cause to believe that Democrats are unprincipled, Bush has given people cause to believe that republicans are simple. I believe a willingness to change one's mind is a wonderful and magical thing. I wish our current president had the guts to do it. What was the vote on the patriot act? 300 to 3? The authorization to use force in Iraq? 350 to .2? I hope more congresspersons and senators and journalists WAKE UP to what has happened in this country over the last four years. What is relevant, I believe is the overall 25 year record of voting that we see from Kerry. If it has been foolish or wrongheaded or unusually special-interest driven, then I believe that is significant. When I hear that Kerry is for the patriot act and against it, I think he probably likes parts of it and dislikes others, which is probably reasonable. But just for the hell of it lets take it at face value that Kerry is for the Patriot Act and against it. That is still better than bush who is for the Patriot act and for the Patriot act (II?).

Now the Pentagon Tells Bush: Climate Change Will Destroy Us

I have no idea what to make of this. So now were all gonna be either dead or dressed in leather by 2020? Whatever. You can't predict tomorrow's weather, let alone 2020's and its political ramifications. On the other hand global warming is real and we need to sac up. I did hear on the radio just this week that scienitsts are predicting that Australia's great barrier reefs will be destroyed in the next 10 years. That's shitty. I just saw some footage of the reefs on discovery and its some of the most beautiful bits of earth i've ever seen.

Scientists Say Administration Distorts Facts Thanks Spencer for this BOMB. "The two documents accuse the administration of repeatedly censoring and suppressing reports by its own scientists, stacking advisory committees with unqualified political appointees, disbanding government panels that provide unwanted advice and refusing to seek any independent scientific expertise in some cases." We all know BushCo sucks Satan's Cock, but it still hits in the pit of the stomach when I read something like this. Last night I had a conversation with somebody who was asking me if BushCo would break the law in order to steal the election. I don't doubt it for an instant. The question is to what extent? She asked if they would even encourage another terrorist attack. God I hope not. But, as Bartcop says, the question one must ask is "Would evil men do XY&Z for money and power?" Well I might not believe in evil on a philosophical per se kinda level, but these guys are bad news, and seem to act as if evil existed and they are its horsemen.

JS Online: Veteran tells how Kerry risked life for crew

JS Online: Veteran tells how Kerry risked life for crew: "Sandusky vowed Thursday to steer clear of the 'blood and guts' stories, but he did recount the time Kerry earned the Silver Star by ordering the boat beached so he could chase down and kill an enemy soldier who wielded a rocket launcher. 'John knew it was the only way,' Sandusky said. 'He knew (the enemy soldier) was going to launch.'"

Well, there's no doubt about it, the blog was WAY better before i started my job. I just don't do as much interesting shit as I did when I was unemployed or working just enough to scrape by. And those times when I do do something I am usually to beat or busy to write about it properly. Hell, I met a real live guru and liked him. I want to visit him in Sante Fe. And I haven't even blogged it! No time to do the experience justice. I'm looking forward to the time I can live and write and be myself more hours of the day. It'll happen. Meanwhile I bought 3 pairs of shoes on my lunch break. Basketball shoes for basketbal, cleats for ultimate, and black chucks for the office. All totally needed. I also got a digital multitrack recorder at guitar center yesterday. The fostex MR-8. I love it. The thing is a cinch to use, sounds more than nice enough for my needs, was cheap (275 new), and is just fun as hell to play around with. But there seems to be a major catch. it records onto CF cards and 128 megs can only hold 23 minutes. Which sounded fine to me, but I now know its 23 TRACK minutes-- which means you divide the number of minutes by the number of tracks. If I actually USE all eight tracks that 128mb CF card is worth three minutes... That won't do, right? A 512 card costs another 140 bux, and is only worth 12 8track-44khz/16bit minutes. As long as its ong enough for one song I should be OK, because after than I upload to the PC for mixing. On the other hand a HD recorder would be nice... and so would 16 tracks... fuck! I suffer majorly from mission creep.

Dwight Lightning & The Awesome Express

I think this is the new Band Name. People in general even seem to like it which is unheard of, or maybe just "Awesome Express." But something is in this very fertile series of words oh yes. Now we just need some of that stuff... what do you call it? Oh yeah, music. The name came from a forest and Futurama and Chris.

Worst Musician Ever Seeks Others Of Equal Or Lesser Skill

chris posted this ad seeking musicians to craig's list and the responses are OVERFLOWING. A promoter has already offered to book the band if one gets together from the ad. I can see why, it is a brilliant post and just too cool. Chris, I salute you!

Yahoo! News - French Lawmakers OK Religious Apparel Ban

Yahoo! News - French Lawmakers OK Religious Apparel Ban The law passed in the lower house of parliment 494-36. That's about a 93% majority in favor of the ban. It's cold water in the face of folks who think the french are americans with stinky cheese. This would be a preposterious law in the US, even in the post 9-11 house of mirrors we are still trying to escape. Obviously politics are large part of the law's existence. The performance of LePenn last time around has left a residue of nationalism that the big boys want to capitalize on. I have a hunch elections must be incoming. This kinda thing plays huge with those folks who value french purity. But is the law such a bad idea? I think I share some of the naive secular idealism that provides the ideological grounding of the law. Dressing children up in the symbols of our religions seems wrong. Most school children don't understand the full implications of the symbols they are wearing. What they do know is that these symbols seperate them from one another. The boys with yarmulke and the girls with burkahs know they aren't too cavort, I'd stake money on it. Children, like adults, are natually clique-ish, but they lack the perspective and possibly the prejudice of their parents. Remove the caps and shawls, and suddenly the children are laughing and running together. There is something I find appealing about the idea that we should strip our children of the symbologies that seperate us, and send them into school to play together-- and to learn about the ideas and histories that conspire to seperate them. Let them decide for themselves if provinciality, providence, and war are games they want to engage in for the rest of their lives.

Podvin on the Media 12/25/03

Podvin on the Media 12/25/03: "On December 1, 2003, Howard Dean was ahead by twenty points in the polls when he appeared on Hardball with Chris Matthews and said, We're going to break up the giant media enterprises. This pronouncement went far beyond the governors previous public musings about possibly re-regulating the communications industry, and amounted to a declaration of war on the corporations that administer the flow of information in the United States. It was an extraordinarily noble and dangerous thing to do: when he advocated a truly free press, Dr. Dean was provoking the corrupt media conglomerates that control what most Americans see and hear and read, and thereby control what most Americans think. The media giants quickly responded by crushing his high-flying campaign with the greatest of ease... "

I haven't mentioned it here, but my grandma is in the hospital. Actually shes been back and forth between the hospital and a rehab center. Even though she is not seriously ill, she seems really defeated by the whole ordeal. I can't wait to have my grandma back. With my crazy work schedule I don't do enough reflecting, but over the last couple weeks I've re-realize how little I know about her and how endless her kindness has been to me. I used to say that I wasn't afraid of getting old, just of dying. These days I'm not so sure. Claudia has always been just the opposite. She says she isn't afraid of death, but she never wants people to know her age. She didn't tell me for weeks after I started asking, and when she did it was with a hidden note with the name of a sports figure whose jersey number corresponded. So I told Dotty that I want to find a new place. I think she was sad. I'm sad too because I really like her. I'll help her find a replacement tenent. I just need a proper room and stuff. It is pretty suprising to me how hard it was for me to tell her. Very dweeby. Now the hunt for a place beings. Damnit, I gotta call individual x back. What makes the lettert x the letter x, by the way? Is it the symmetry of the symbol itself?

decided to cut the janet image. the reuse of it as junk entertainment is way grosser than the image itself. on the other hand. it is a genuine moment in the cultural memory that will probably be vivid for decades. whatever, not here. Speaking of spontanious unfettered prose, I'm reading a colleciton of letters between Kerouac and Joyce Johnson. She talks about the "beats" in terms of the word's non-musical definition. Sombody who is lost, somebody who is exhausted and maybe defeated. Somebody at the bottom. This is Ginsberg's definition, and it includes the addendum that the person at the bottom is looking up. PS, ginsberg seems like the gertrude stein of the scene. I feel more like I'm looking out. escapism has negative connotations but escape can be a wonderful thing, can it not? Just ask Steve McQueen. That's a rhetorical injunction.
