Bush Accuses Kerry of Waffling on Issues
Yahoo! News - Bush Accuses Kerry of Waffling on Issues: "'The other party's nomination battle is still playing out. The candidates are an interesting group with diverse opinions,' Bush said. 'They're for tax cuts and against them. They're for NAFTA and against NAFTA. They're for the Patriot Act and against the Patriot Act. They're in favor of liberating Iraq (news - web sites), and opposed to it. And that's just one senator from Massachusetts.' His supportive audience erupted in laughter and applause."
"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines."
-- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ya know folks, if Clinton gave people cause to believe that Democrats are unprincipled, Bush has given people cause to believe that republicans are simple. I believe a willingness to change one's mind is a wonderful and magical thing. I wish our current president had the guts to do it. What was the vote on the patriot act? 300 to 3? The authorization to use force in Iraq? 350 to .2? I hope more congresspersons and senators and journalists WAKE UP to what has happened in this country over the last four years. What is relevant, I believe is the overall 25 year record of voting that we see from Kerry. If it has been foolish or wrongheaded or unusually special-interest driven, then I believe that is significant.
When I hear that Kerry is for the patriot act and against it, I think he probably likes parts of it and dislikes others, which is probably reasonable. But just for the hell of it lets take it at face value that Kerry is for the Patriot Act and against it. That is still better than bush who is for the Patriot act and for the Patriot act (II?).
