decided to cut the janet image. the reuse of it as junk entertainment is way grosser than the image itself. on the other hand. it is a genuine moment in the cultural memory that will probably be vivid for decades. whatever, not here. Speaking of spontanious unfettered prose, I'm reading a colleciton of letters between Kerouac and Joyce Johnson. She talks about the "beats" in terms of the word's non-musical definition. Sombody who is lost, somebody who is exhausted and maybe defeated. Somebody at the bottom. This is Ginsberg's definition, and it includes the addendum that the person at the bottom is looking up. PS, ginsberg seems like the gertrude stein of the scene. I feel more like I'm looking out. escapism has negative connotations but escape can be a wonderful thing, can it not? Just ask Steve McQueen. That's a rhetorical injunction.
